Henna Artist Renu Lal Comes to SpiritsChild

Renu Lal, a Sacramento, CA. Mehndi (as it is known in India) artist, was born and raised in New Delhi, India and began practicing henna on family, friends and neighbors as a young child. Renu is a teacher by training, henna1

but her talent in Mehndi/henna has kept her occupied.

Now days, she is the most sought henna artist in California. Her art is displayed by thousands of happy, satisfied clients at art and harvest festivals and renaissance fairs. Henna parties are also a part of her busy schedule. These intimate gatherings are a way people can enjoy the mystique and ethnic allure right in their own homes.

Voted the "Best of Body Art" in the Sacramento News and Review, Renu does all her designs free hand and can complete practically any design that her clients would like. Her expertise is in traditional Hindu, tribal, and Celtic symbolism. Renu is well versed in the customary wedding motifs and has traveled to other states to provide this personal and spiritual ritual.

In my culture, henna conjures up images of romance and creates an aura of glamour. It is refered to as the unspoken language of women. The symbols we use in Mehndi are said to be universal, with ancient meaning and a connection to the sources of Life.

Henna is a plant best known for its use to color and condition the hair naturally. The henna plant, famous for Rajastan, India, grows in warm climates. The leaves from the plant are crushed and make into a paste to safely draw a design directly on the skin. The result of this temporary tattoo, traditionally reddish brown in color, will last any where from a few days to several weeks. The application process is painless and in no way harms the skin.

Traditionally the designs are placed on hands and feet, but now the modern generation has changed it all. Learn to Play the Native American Flute

Saturday March 20th, 1pm - 5pm

In this Workshop you will learn basic 5-hole fingering of the Lakota style flute, various fingering and breathing techniques for different sounds and how to read and play simple “Flute notation” songs.

This is an ancient instrument that was used in many Native American tribes as a “Courting” instrument by the men and was put away after marriage, so as not to threaten the marriage with the temptation of courting another. It is an instrument of the heart and can be learned easily. Calm your Spirit with the soothing sounds. Connect with your heart to gain clarity about your purpose and passion in life. Or, just relax, ahhhhhhh…., and let the flute carry you to your creative center.

You don’t need to know anything about music to learn and will be able to play simple tunes by the end of class! Now is the time to allow yourself to express the beauty and love that you have within you.
